APN002384: Determination of ammonia in sodium bicarbonate using a compact RFIC ion chromatography system

Instrument Type: IC

Sodium bicarbonate, or sodium hydrogen carbonate, is used in a wide variety of pharmaceutical and food products, and ammonia is one of the impurities that is assayed. In this application proof note, the performance of the easy-to-use, compact Thermo Scientific Dionex Inuvion ion chromatography system was evaluated for this application.

APN002317 Determination of benzoate in soy sauce using a compact IC system

Instrument Type: IC

Sodium benzoate and potassium benzoate are added to acidic foods as preservatives. Therefore, benzoate is regulated as a food additive. The determinations of benzoate in liquid food products was previously demonstrated in Application Note AN165. In this application proof note, the application is demonstrated on the same column, a Thermo Scientific™ Dionex™ IonPac™ AS18 (4 × 250 mm) anion-exchange column, using eluent generation and a suppressor upgraded to current technology. The application is facilitated by the Thermo Scientific™ Dionex™ Inuvion™ ion chromatography system.

CN001941: Determination of Chlorate in Agar Samples using Ion Chromatography (IC)

Instrument Type: IC

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) reported chlorate as a risk to human health. In June 2020, the European Commission set chlorate limits for various foods, including the limit for algae (0.05 mg/kg). This work describes a straightforward method to determine chlorate in seaweed-derived agar products. A sample preparation circumvents unwanted gelation, thus avoiding clogging capillaries and columns. Our approach is suitable for analyzing chlorate where the final agar content does not exceed 0.5–1.0%

TN001900: Evaluation of Cationic Quaternary Amines by Ion Chromatography and Mass Spectroscopy (IC-MS)

Instrument Type: ICMS

Pesticide contamination in food as a potential health risk is a growing public concern. The determinations of cationic quaternary amine polar pesticides are challenging due to their similar chemistries and similar masses and mass fragments. For example, Thermo Scientific Dionex™ IonPac™ CS21-Fast-4μm cation-exchange column was designed to resolve diquat and paraquat. This technical note provides the IC-MS conditions for twelve of the fifteen analytes. Three analytes, 1,2,4-triazole, difenzoquat, and propamocarb, are unsuitable using the Dionex IonPac CS21-Fast-4μm column for IC-MS analysis.

AN72714: HPAE-PAD Analysis of Galactosyloligosaccharide-Containing Samples using Dual Eluent Generation Cartridge Mode

Instrument Type: IC

Our study demonstrated GOS separation using Dual EGC mode and a Dionex CarboPac PA200 1 mm column. The results reported here update an earlier application note that used a GOS sample containing maltodextrin and incorrectly reported maltodextrin peaks as GOS peaks.
